| About Me |

Hello,

You found this page!
It's not clear by the title what is in here, but here are a few things to give you more insight as to who I am.

I'm September Carolan; dressmaker and owner of September Carolan Designs.
I live in Texas and as with everything else in Texas, I have a family that is big.

One thing about me right off the bat is Creativity, it's my number one thing! I have too many ideas and designs running through my head for one person to handle, so I try to realize such ideas as much as possible.

In addition to my shop, another interest of mine is photography. For almost 10 years I have done digital work as well as film. All photos posted on Etsy and Flickr are from either my tiny-fat Canon Powershot digital camera or my Yashica Electro film camera. There are only a few prints of mine in existence and they're hanging in a grand staircase somewhere. Also, I edit my photos when needed, my motto is: if you spend more time editing than taking the entire photoshoot, your photography isn't good enough. So I like to keep things minimal, that goes with my clothing design as well.

As far as how I learned to sew, that skill was passed down to me from my grandmother and my mom, who taught me hand sewing and machine sewing, respectively, it's also a little bit of formal training too.
The first major sewing project I undertook was my senior prom dress with a Civil War style steel-boned corset, a satin train-skirt, and taffeta bustle, the whole project took about a month.
All clothing that is listed in the Etsy shop is either sewn with my Brother sewing machine, "Filburt", or my Singer sewing machine named "Pixie".
Sewing is something I've done for over 12 years, it mainly started out as a way to make what I couldn't find or afford. That's what got me into DIY at such a young age.

DIY is a major part of my everyday ethic, if I can't afford it, I make it myself. That goes for my shop as well, I hand-stamp my business cards and use paper grocery bags or reuse shipping envelopes as shipping packages, as a few examples; being eco-friendly and using sustainable items for my shop is a slow transition for me.

Some might assume I am a hippie, I wouldn't deny it fully; I do eat healthy, occasionally do yoga, drink loads of Green tea, and walk around barefoot any chance I get, haha!

That's the short of me, pretty much.
